Postal Services
Important information for travellers about Australian phone and postal services.
Australia's postal services are reasonably efficient and inexpensive.
Most post offices are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday; but you can often get stamps on Saturday mornings from local news agencies, or general stores.
Receiving Mail
All post offices will hold visitors mail; which can be collected upon presenting identification, such as a driver’s license.
You can have mail sent to the American Express Offices in Perth if you have an Amex card or traveller’s cheques – but please check with American Express before you try it.
Mail to and from isolated centres can take a while; particularly from the north during the wet season - where delays are unavoidable. The weekly mail plane is often the only messenger, and delivery service, in and out of many communities!
Other mail is delivered by truck, usually along hundreds of kilometres of dusty and bumpy roads.
