What to do and what to take

Careful planning is the key to a successful escape
There is a huge difference in the planning required for an escape along the Canning Stock Route and planning a decadent escape to the wineries of the South West.

The extent to which you enjoy your DriveWA escape will depend on how carefully you plan. Preparing your vehicle is as important to your safety on the roads as driving at the right speed.

Compile your own checklists of things that need to be prepared and jobs that need to be done. This way you won’t forget to get the brakes repaired or relined, or to replace the spare tyre that was punctured six weeks ago!

Checklists
We recommend that you perform your own research before compiling a list of things to take. Every DriveWA escape will be a little different another.

Many people do not spend enough time and energy preparing their vehicle or preparing themselves before a journey.

This is sometimes because in our modern communities, most of us are used to having continuous and convenient access to the goods and services we require.

Corner stores can be very few and far between in the Australian outback, and the parts you may need to repair your vehicle, or the medical supplies you may need for your medical condition, may not be readily available; even when you find a small town.

A simple problem that stops your vehicle running can turn into a life threatening emergency if you are lost a few hundred kilometres from help, with no way to communicate with anyone.

We urge you to carefully read through our site index. Seek out the things that look like they might be relevant to your DriveWA escape.

If at the end of that you are still unsure and you need assistance, email us and let us know what you plan to do. We will endeavour to assist you with some hints and referrals to specialists who can help you prepare your vehicle and yourself.
