2. Warlu Way Escape! Exmouth to Broome!

Weano Gorge, Karijini National Park Stairway to the Moon, Broome, is an extraordinary experience not to be missed

The Warlu Way Escape takes you from our suffocating modern environment to a beautiful ancient land and will awaken your senses to some of the  mysteries of the "Dreamtime".

View and customise the Warlu Way itinerary using the "My Itinerary" holiday planner here.

This will give the Jailors something to think about!

They will never find you out here!

Relax under the huge starlit skies or on the magnificent white sandy beaches at Cable Beach or marvel at the colours and diversity of the extraordinary aquatic life on the world renowned Ningaloo Reef or explore the majestic gorges of the Karijini National Park.

This is the best of Australia by some distance in my opinion and I have not seen it all - but I have seen a lot of it!  Get your Getaway Car ready and lets escape!

For the Warlu Way map see the heading for maps, books etc above!

And along the way the excellent interpretive materials will reveal some of the ancient mysteries of the Warlu serpent as the stories of the Aboriginals of yester year take you on a journey of discovery over about 2500 kilometres through the ancient lands of the Gascoyne, Pilbarra and Kimberley with their sapphire blue seas, majestic gorges, ancient aboriginal rock art, rugged mountain ranges and inland oases.

You will learn to appreciate the secrets of this magnificent country and if you open your hearts and minds to the country then you may gain more than the historical and cultural feel of these natural wonders and the ancient land.

This is a great area escape - and if you dont feel something special at Fern Pool at Karijini or at Millstream or looking at the ancient rock art then you need to spend more time out there not less.

Of course all of the 8greatEscapes are special but in my view the Indigenous Australians are right - there is something out here that you cannot experience in the city - there is something very special about this country and this land and it needs to be preserved for at least another 40,000 years - so that everyone might escape the Jailors and experience it at least once in their lifetimes.

I always get the feeling that I am coming home when I am out there and that is strange because it is not my homeland in any real sense.   My father spent some time on the land out there at Ningaloo Station reopening the whaling station there after World War 2 because the State was in desperate need of oil after the devastation wrought by WW2 but I have spent far too little time out here.

So come and experience this trail and the plains, waterholes and lagoons.

If you open your mind to it, you might just experience a feeling that you would love to be able to capture and take with you - but it has to stay here because it has been here since the dawn of time - and you need to escape to this area to experience it - you wont find it in the middle of a modern city.  This is one escape you cannot afford not to attempt!

We recommend you have a look at one of our own Youtube videos about Karijini and Exmouth which takes you on part of the Warlu Way trail - sadly before it was built.

And by then you should be ready to start planning your escape to the Warlu Way with us at DriveWA.com - this is a fabulous escape in a magical part of an ancient continent.

The Warlu Way takes you through a veritable kaleidescope of natural beauty from the colourful and peaceful Ningaloo Reef region and the Cape Range National Park, to the majestic gorges, waterfalls and spellbinding pools of the Karijini National Park and on to the magical Millstream and the Millstream-Chichester National Park which is really special at dawn as the mist hangs over the water and from there to see the rock art of the Burrup Peninsular which makes the Pyramids look like a series of new buildings.

From there you will travel to see some more recent Aboriginal Art and the historic buildings of Cossack and on to the mighty mining centre of Port Hedland, the 80 mile beach and finally the holiday paradise of Broome will be your resting place.

By the way the age of the Pyramids in Egypt ia apparently thought to have lasted from about 2650 years before Christ to about 2150 years B.C. which makes the oldest pyramid less than 5,000 years old.

To put that into it's correct historical perspective the Indigineous Australians have been the guardians of this ancient country for something like 3 to 8 times as long as the oldest Pyramid has been on this earth -  some of these ancient Indigenous Australians of this area were there perhaps 30,000 to 40,000 years ago.

However long it is they know something about conserving land - perhaps white anglo saxons could learn something from them about not overusing land, water, iron and oil and about putting something back in when you take something out.

And there are a number of ways to do the Warlu Way Escape - one might start one's escape from the South and if you did then we would recommend you pick up our Swans escape to Ningaloo Escape from Perth if that is your excape point and take it to Coral Bay and from there break into the Warlu Way Escape.

Our Swans Escape to Ningaloo escape is in itself a wonderful experience.

Or you can do the Warlu Way Escape backwards coming southwards from Broome and when you get to Exmouth you could break into the Swans Escape to Ningaloo package and take it back to Perth.

Yes I know - you could put the car into cruise control out of Perth and drive at the speed limit to Coral Bay to begin the Warlu Way stopping overnight at Carnarvon as many people do - But that would be a terrible waste of an opportunity you may never get again.  We try to discourage you from allowing the Jailors that much control over you perhaps you think you cannot escape for long enough to do both?  Bet you could if you tried!

Well you sure wont know if you dont give it a go - so come on, try it!

But if you do travel like a mad roadbeatle to Coral Bay and start from there, well then just keep an open mind when on the open road - perhaps by the end of the Warlu Way you will have come to your senses and on the way back from Broome you can pick up the Swans escape to Ningaloo package on the way home!

Just do yourself a favour and don't tell the Jailors when you will be back - then when your spirit has been enriched by the Aussie outback, email them from somewhere they cannot reply to or track you down to say in Exmouth and tell them you are not coming back as early as first thought - take some of that additional leave you have owing and escape again!
