Farm and Station Stays

Nannup Lavender Farm

Every DriveWA escape should include a visit to a farm, or station stay, so that you may experience the 'real' Aussie outback; on a sheep or cattle farm in the red north, or the quiet and solitude of a getaway to a farm in the green south west. These stays are good for your soul and spirit especially after too many years in the city.

The outback is a land of large sheep or cattle, farms ('stations'). One of the best ways to understand the Australian outback is to experience a farm yourself even if it is only for a day or two.

In the south west you can experience the beauty of the green farming areas; where grapes, dairy, and green farming country provides a restful environment; often surrounded by one of the great south west forests.

With unpredictable commodity prices and economic decline in some WA rural areas, tourism has offered an alternative source of revenue to many resourceful WA farmers.

Some stations have switched almost entirely to tourism. Many offer accommodation that allows you to watch how it's done; whilst others like to get you more actively involved in the day-to-day activities.

Accommodation ranges from group sites and dormitories in shearing sheds, to five star bungalows. As a bonus prices are generally quite reasonable.
