Ningaloo Marine Park is a must-see destination; not simply because of its amazing coral reef and white-sandy beaches, but also due to the rugged limestone ranges and canyons in the surrounding region. Located approximately 1200 kilometres north of Perth, off shore from the mainland, Ningaloo Reef is a prime spot for relaxation and aquatic adventure.

 

The untouched beauty of Ningaloo Reef is 260 kilometres surrounded by clear shallow waters of radiant white sandy lagoon. Ningaloo’s most unique feature is that visitors are able to stroll 100 metres off the shore onto the coral reef; even more fascinating is feeding the amazingly colourful fishes which playfully swim between your legs. This rare opportunity allows visitors to inspect both the reef and its residents from a close, more personal angle.

 

A popular activity for visitors to Ningaloo Reef is snorkelling. With the vast array of tropics species, colourful fish, and illuminated coral; visitors have described the experience as “like swimming through the stars”. Included amongst the myriad of tropical species are Whale Sharks, Mantarays, Humpback Whales, Dugongs, Turtles, Potato Cod and an abundance of fish species.

 

Ningaloo Marine Park was declared in 1987, in an attempt to protect Western Australia’s largest coral reef by controlling its public access. The reef is a unique area, as it is so close to dry landmass and where the Australian continent is closest to the continental shelf. There are many tours available that take you out onto the reef; and these can be booked through the Exmouth Visitor Centre.
